As we move into 2021, we're not sure which lines of insurance will see a resurgence. Regardless, some industries have held their ground over the last 12 months, and those industries may expand as we revive the economy. Here are four risks we believe could positively impact your agency in the coming year.

Cyber Liability

In our last post, we addressed the importance of cyber liability in 2021. This coverage will continue to become more prevalent in the years to come, and agents should be advancing their knowledge of cybersecurity to market this coverage adequately. If cyberattacks continue to trend upward, we may see cyber liability as a standard among most package policies. The onus is on all insurance professionals to educate both the agent and the insured about cybercrime.

Construction

The construction trade provides several lines of marketable coverage. From commercial auto to builder's risk, there's an endless stream of target prospects. Artisan contractors are in extremely high demand, with some booking work into 2022. Logging and landscaping are in high demand as well. Regardless of their operations, most contractor classes are a safe bet in 2021.

Transportation

As we move into the new year, travel is still limited, but the delivery of goods and in-home services has increased. What risks stand out in this scenario? Transportation risks. One of the strongest classes in 2021 will be commercial auto. We highly encourage digging into this line of coverage and learning about your options for building your transportation portfolio and clients.

Habitational

It's unclear if the economic downturn of the last twelve months will negatively impact home ownership; therefore, we recommend building habitational risks into every agents' mix of business. Apartments, condos, and even rooming houses are a key source of housing in most regions. Business Income, Equipment Breakdown, and even Liability for pools and playgrounds should be considered to design a highly profitable offering for the insured.

As we embark on a new year, we hope you will embrace the available possibilities within commercial lines of insurance. We encourage you to branch out and check out new or evolving coverage options supported by your managing general agent.
